Traditional weaving meets innovative spirit, as Scottish weavers are renowned for uniquely lightweight cashmere scarves, among other things, as well as the highest standards of quality and workmanship. From the west coast of Scotland, the exquisite woollen goods, made from the finest cashmere, silk, merino and lambswool yarns, have made an international name for themselves. Begg & Co was originally founded in the Scottish town of Paisley. At the time, founder Alex Begg produced wool scarves with a small group of reliable local weavers. Paisley had become a focal point of the progressive weaving community in the Victorian era and was synonymous with the iconic drop pattern, which Begg & Co used to produce some of the earliest paisley scarves - two of which still exist today; one in the Begg family, the other on display at Paisley Museum. In 1902 the company relocated to Ayr on the south west coast of Scotland. This allowed Begg & Co to invest in new machinery and develop a range of innovative, exploratory weaving techniques. 150 years later, this commitment to innovation still exists. Begg & Co is known as a brand that knows how to use its experience as a solid foundation to continually drive new and sophisticated production methods.
