The story of Vilebrequin begins with the romance between Yvette and Fred, two young people from Nîmes in France. While Yvette is passionate about fashion, Fred is addicted to car racing and travels the world as a reporter to cover Formula 1 races. Back in France, he wants to conquer Yvette and creates a swimsuit with which he wants to win Yvette over. At a time when skin-tight fashion is in fashion, the young Frenchman creates a colorful striped, loose-cut trunks which he wears on the beach and inspires friends and stars. The name is inspired by the iron staircase of the first boutique, which reminds Fred of a crankshaft (French "Vilebrequin").
