Federico de Majo was practically born with a special knack for glass. The designer grew up on the famous island of Murano, which belongs to Venice and is known all over the world for its fascinating, hand-blown glass objects. This art has a long tradition on the island: all Venetian glassworks were relocated here in 1295. It is also said that the secrets of the art of glassmaking are best preserved on the small island.

Federico de Majo's family also ran a glassworks in Murano. Closely associated with the family business, he finally founded his own company for exclusive glassware and objects in 2001: Zafferano. The name translates as "saffron" - the most precious spice in the world. In addition to artistic glasses from Zafferano, a few years after the company was founded, another own brand called Ai Lati was created, which includes lamps. One of the secrets of its success? The skillful combination of glass art and technology, which produces simple but extremely decorative indoor and outdoor lights with state-of-the-art lighting technology.
